Highway

Residents who operate vehicles on town roads rely on the Highway Department to keep them clear and driveable.  The Town of Carmel Highway Department maintains more than 175 miles of roadway, including hundreds of catch basins and stormwater drains.  The Highway Department assists in the removal of trees that have fallen during severe weather and also removes dead animals from town roads.

SPRING SWEEPING
Each spring, the Town of Carmel schedules a Town wide sweeping of all roads.

TREE REMOVAL
The area 10 feet back from the edge of the roadway is known as the Town right-of-way. Any work being done in this area by a homeowner or utility company requires a permit from the Town of Carmel Highway Department. 

POT HOLE REPAIR
Potholes should be reported directly to the Highway Department at (845) 628-7474. Residents should provide the exact street address and the nearest cross street.

STORM WATER DRAINS
Storm drains are for the runoff of rain water and snow. Should you notice a storm drain that is clogged or in need of repair, please notify the Highway Department immediately at (845) 628-7474.

FALL
Residents are responsible for the removal of leaves on their own property. At no time should leaves be raked or blown into the roadways.

SNOW REMOVAL
During the period of November 15 through April 15, residents are asked to remove their vehicles from roadways . At no time should snow from your driveway or walkway be pushed or blown on to Town roads.

TOWN OF CARMEL RECYCLING DEPARTMENT
The Town of Carmel Recycling Center has been closed indefinitely by the NYCDEP. No further information is available at this time.
