The Receiver of Taxes collects taxes for the Town, County, the three school districts within the Town of Carmel, rents (usage fees) for all municipal water districts, fees for Building Department permits and fees from various town boards, etc.

COUNTY AND TOWN TAX BILLS

Tax bills are mailed the first week of January.  Full payment must be in the office on the last day of the month of January, or post marked on that day at the post office. Full payment may also be made in February, with 1% interest, March, with 2% interest, and in April, with 3% interest plus a $2.00 mailing fee. After May 1st payment must be made to the Commissioner of Finance of Putnam County.

A partial payment, which must be exactly half of the total amount, may be paid in January. The second installment can be paid any month, from February 1st until July 31st, with a 1% per month interest charge. After August 1st it is returned to the Commissioner of Finance.

SCHOOL TAX BILLS

Tax bills are mailed the first week of September. Partial payment must be in the office by the 15th of September, or post marked on that day at the post office. After September 15th, partial payment can no longer be accepted. If the first half is paid, the second payment will then be due on March 15th of the following year, payable to the Commissioner of Finance. A 4% interest charge is divided between the two payments.  Full payment must be in the office no later than the last day of September, or post marked on that day at the post office.  Full payment will also be accepted in October with 2% interest.  After November 1st, it is returned to the Commissioner of Finance to be relevied into the Town Tax bill that is due the following January.

County and Town Tax - January 1st to 31st

School Tax - September 1st to 30th

First Half Payment Deadlines 

County and Town Tax - January 31st

School Tax - September 15th

Second Half Payment

County and Town Tax - to the Receiver of Taxes, any month from February 1st to July 31st with interest.
(Feb.- 1%, Mar.- 2%, Apr.- 3%, May - 4% June - 5%, July - 6%)

School Tax - to the Commissioner of Finance by  March 15th                              

Last day to make full payment plus penalty on the County and Town Tax to the Receiver of Taxes is April 30th

Last day to make the second half payment plus penalty of the County and Town Tax to the Receiver of Taxes is July 31st
